The Korean War (in a nutshell) 1950-1953
- In the US it is known now as "The Forgotten War" because it falls between WW2 and Vietnam
- Korea was split into communist North Korea and democratic South Korea after the fall of Japan at the end of WW2
- North Korean communists invade South Korea on June 26, 1950 pushing refugees and S. Korean soldiers all the way to the southern city of Pusan.
- UN Troop (80% US) help the S. Koreans stop a total disaster and push the N. Koreans back across the 38th parallel (Gen. MacArthur uses an amphibious assault)
- The UN forces invade N. Korea. China sends troops across the border into N. Korea to stop the UN forces
- The UN forces are pushed back to the starting line (38th parallel) and a ceasefire was declared.
- It's been an uneasy truce ever since.
- 54,000 US soldiers killed, approximately 2,000,000 Koreans and Chinese were killed
